Texas Mayor tells residents to write Names/SSN on arms to help ID bodies

Hurricane Harvey was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane as it slowed and picked up strength with winds up to 140 MPH.

Rockport Texas Mayor Pro Tempore Patrick Rios said Friday that if residents aren’t evacuating, they should write their names and social security number son their arms so that their bodies can be identified.

“We’re suggesting if people are going to stay here, mark their arm with a Sharpie pen with their name and Social Security number,” Rios said at a press conference according to ABC News.

“We hate to talk about things like that. It’s not something we like to do, but it’s the reality, people don’t listen,” he said.

At around 6 PM Friday, Hurricane Harvey was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane as it slowed and picked up strength with winds up to 140 MPH.

Texas and Louisiana are each in a state of emergency for the hurricane. Harvey is the first major hurricane to make landfall in the US in 12 years.

Areas which are being hit are already prone to flooding with any rain, and some rainfall is estimated to reach as high as 40 inches. Catastrophic flooding is expected over wide areas over the next week.

Just about all law enforcement officers in the Houston area have been mandated to work rotating 12-hour shifts for the near-future.

There have been reports of price-gouging as residents rushed to try to make preparations for the hurricane.

President Donald Trump is at Camp David monitoring the storm. He tweeted out on Friday, “Storm turned Hurricane is getting much bigger and more powerful than projected. Federal Government is on site and ready to respond. Be safe!” and “I encourage everyone in the path of HurricaneHarvey to heed the advice & orders of their local and state officials.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with everybody in the path of the storm.
