It appears that our friends and neighbors to the east are having an especially difficult time this year due to the many and ongoing wildfires —
New thunderstorms, high winds and a stretch of 90 and 100 degree weather continue to impact communities and complicate the wildfire situation on the east slope of the Cascades. Many trails are closed for the safety of hikers and fire crews.
There are multiple fires burning across 251,698 acres in the rough triangle between Chelan, Okanogan and Winthrop and they are impacting local communities and closing area trails.
Donations are being taken at various locations in order to assist and/or help those who have been affected by these wildfires —
Chelan PUD offices are now accepting donations of money or gift cards to the Red Cross at their Wenatchee, Leavenworth and Chelan locations. They will also collect donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Chelan Riverwalk Park. For more information, call 663-8121 or (888) 663-8121.
North Cascades Bank has set up a fire relief fund at all of its branches. Anyone can donate. For more information, call your local branch — Wenatchee, 888-6000.
KOZI in Chelan is accepting monetary donations at their office, which they will then pass on to the Red Cross. You can reach them at 682-4033.
