MOUNT BAKER, Wash. – One person was killed in an avalanche Sunday near Mount Baker, officials said.
The Northwest Avalanche Center released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened to report that there was an avalanche fatality near Mount Baker (on Sunday). At this time, we have very few details. We will be investigating in the morning.”
The name, age and gender of the victim have not been released.
A search-and-rescue team and a ski patrol are enroute to the scene.
Officials said it was the seventh avalanche death in the United States in the last week alone.
