King County: Troopers Hayden, Greydanus and Roberts responded to a report of a pedestrian Southbound I-5 to Dearborn at 10:52 am on June 9, 2016. Troopers Hayden and Greydanus arrived at approximately the same time and observed a male with no shirt on holding two metal pipes and acting in an erratic manner.
Trooper Hayden drew his service weapon in order to control the situation. The pedestrian began to charge Trooper Hayden’s patrol vehicle and threw one of the metal pipes, shattering the windshield. The pedestrian then became compliant and was placed into custody by Trooper Roberts.
This is a reminder of what Washington State Troopers respond to on a daily basis. This situation could have ended in a much different manner if not for the decisive actions of these three troopers to diffuse the situation. They acted with restraint and relied on their training and experience, risking their own bodily harm to safely take this individual into custody.
The subject was booked into the King County Jail on the charge of Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree.
